A New Way To Find Comp Authors For Amazon Ads

Targeting your Comp Authors with Amazon Ads can be a very lucrative strategy.

The difficulty comes in finding those Comp Authors in the first place.

Personally, my preferred approach is to go to your Amazon Author Page and look at the authors listed in the column on the left-hand side of the page, titled: Customers Also Bought Items By (highlighted in the screenshot below).

This is generally a very accurate representation of your Comp Authors on Amazon because Amazon's algorithm knows everything about its customers (i.e. your readers).

A New Tool I've Discovered...

I recently came across a NEW way to find relevant Comp Authors you can target with your Amazon Ads, which I've been experimenting with for a few days now.

It's called Literature Map.

On the surface, it's a pretty basic interface, but the power of this tool and the insights it provides you with are extraordinary.

The way Literature Map works is very simple:

#1: Enter an author's name into the search box (pick one from the Customers Also Bought Items By section on your Amazon Author Page if you're struggling to think of a suitable one) and click the Search icon

#2: The Author's name you entered will appear in the middle of the screen

#3: It will be surrounded by lots of other Author names; the closer two Author names are, the more likely readers will like books by both authors

#4: Click on any other Author names you see and disappear down the rabbit hole!

You may find, as I have, that Authors you think are good Comp Authors, actually aren't, according to this tool.

So, explore Literature Map, have a play, and start targeting some Authors you find here with your Amazon Ads that you haven't tested before and see what results they bring.
