Capping Your Amazon Ads Spend
Oct 29, 2022
Hey,
When you have a handful of campaigns running in your Amazon Ads account, even if there are just 6 of them with a daily budget of $10 each, that soon adds up to $60 per day or $1,800 per month.
That's a LOT of money to be spending on Amazon Ads if you're just starting out, but especially so if that $1,800 isn't making sales for you.
Today, I'm going to show you how can cap your Amazon Ads spend, no matter what the daily budgets of your campaigns are.
Step #1: Create A Portfolio
Think of Portfolios as folders within your Amazon Ads Account that you can put campaigns into.
To do this, click the Create A Portfolio button in the left-hand sidebar of your Amazon Ads Dashboard, give it a name and click the blue Create a Portfolio button.
Step #2: Add A Portfolio Budget Cap
With your Portfolio created, it will appear in the left-hand side bar of your dashboard. Click on the Portfolio once and it will open up.
Near the top right of your screen, you'll see a Modify Portfolio button. Click this and you'll be taken into the settings for this Portfolio.
In here is a section titled Budget Cap, with a drop-down menu below it. Click the drop-down menu and choose Recurring Monthly.
Now simply enter the maximum amount you want to spend each month on your Amazon Ads, whether that's $300, $1,000, $3,000, etc.
Choose an amount that you are comfortable with spending; I would recommend a minimum of $300 per month, which breaks down to an average of $10 per day.
Step #3: Add Existing Campaigns and New Campaigns To This Portfolio
With your Portfolio created, and your budget cap set, it's now time to move your existing campaigns into this Portfolio.
With new campaigns, simply select this Portfolio during the campaign setup process, in the Campaign settings.
For existing campaigns, you can choose to move them into this Portfolio one at a time, in the Campaign Settings, which looks like this:
Or you can move a batch of campaigns at once into this new Portfolio, by selecting them in your main dashboard with the little check box down the left-hand side, clicking Move To Portfolio, and then choosing the Portfolio to move these selected campaigns into.
With your Portfolio and Budget Cap in place, when the combined total Ad Spend of all the campaigns in this Portfolio reaches your chosen budget cap amount, every campaign in here will stop spending money (i.e. no more impressions or clicks).
The campaigns will start spending money again when:
- You increase the budget cap
- You remove the budget cap
- The 1st of the month rolls round again
And that is how you control your Amazon Ads spend!
Using budget caps won't affect the delivery of your Amazon Ads; they will spend and deliver as normal until your budget cap is reached, at which point they will essentially pause until one of the scenarios outlined above occurs.
