#105: AI Won't Replace You: 5 Ways It Helps
May 17, 2025Read Time: 3 Minutes
Many authors think AI is coming for their jobs.
In my opinion, that's not the case.
I don't believe AI is replacing authors—I believe it's gradually replacing the marketing and business tasks, the grunt work, that steal writing time.
Case in point:
One member of my Facebook Group recently posted about handing their entire marketing strategy over to ChatGPT.
They're seeing their best results ever by feeding it sales data weekly and following its recommendations—even when they go against conventional wisdom.
This isn't about letting robots write your books.
It's about using AI as an assistant while you focus on what matters most to you.
Here are the 5 specific ways I use AI in our businesses (none involve writing books):
1. Facebook Ad Copy That Actually Converts
I used to spend hours crafting the "perfect" ad copy.
Now? 30 minutes max.
My process:
→ Feed Claude (the AI tool I use) my book's blurb, genre, and top 3 reviews
→ Include target audience demographics
→ Share best-performing Facebook Ads copy
→ Request 3-6 variations with different emotional hooks
I do this for both Primary Text and Headlines.
The key? I provide the strategy and the guidelines; AI handles the execution.
2. Amazon Keywords That Make Money
I've very recently started using Claude to help me with Amazon Ads keyword research.
Old way: Randomly guess keywords.
New way: Let AI analyze what's actually working.
My process:
→ Export Amazon Ads search term report
→ Upload to Claude
→ Ask it to identify patterns in high-converting terms
→ Generate 5-10 similar keyword variations
→ Flag expensive non-converters for negative targeting
→ Enter each keyword into Publisher Rocket to analyze monthly search volume
Another strategy I've used for Amazon Ads is to upload the manuscript of the book I"m advertising and ask Claude to suggest keyword ideas based on the content of the book.
It's not perfect, but there are some gems amongst the rough.
3. Newsletter Topics My Readers Actually Want
This very newsletter you're reading right now exists because of AI.
My process:
→ Feed AI some of my recent newsletters (so it can get a feel for my writing style and content)
→ Include reader replies and questions I've received through email
→ Add content from posts inside my Facebook Group
→ Be very specific about who my audience is and current challenges I'm hearing about in the author community
→ Ask Claude to come up with a list of relevant and timely topic ideas I can write about
If you want to go a step further, you could use AI to map out the next 1, 2, 3, 6+ months of newsletter topics.
The possibilities are endless.
4. Email Subject Lines That Get Opened
I write one subject line.
AI writes multiple alternatives.
My process:
→ Write the email content
→ Come up with my "gut instinct" subject line
→ Ask AI to suggest more subject lines using different emotional triggers (curiosity, urgency, benefit, etc.)
→ Tell Claude that I want subject lines to be 50 characters or less (to keep them mobile-friendly)
If you're not sure which subject line to go with, most email marketing services have the option of A/B testing subject lines to find your winner.
5. Book Descriptions That Hook Readers
Full confession: I'm terrible at writing my own book descriptions.
I'm too close to the content.
AI fixes this:
→ For fiction, I provide: genre, tropes, main conflict, emotional journey and reader reviews
→ For non-fiction, I provide topic, audience, problem book solves and reader reviews
→ I'll also upload the manuscript or part of the manuscript to give Claude more context
→ Claude writes multiple book description ideas
→ I choose one, tweak and adjust it with Claude and then add the human touch
Speaking of the human touch...
The Human Element Still Matters
The Facebook group member I mentioned at the beginning of this newsletter who is handing over much of their marketing strategy to AI?
They're not letting it run wild.
They're:
- Setting strategic direction
- Providing context and constraints
- Testing AI recommendations against human intuition
- Maintaining their unique author voice
AI is their assistant, not their replacement.
Your Next Move
My advice is to stop fearing AI and begin to embrace it.
To get started...
→ Pick ONE repetitive task you're not overly keen on
→ Find an AI solution for it
→ Test for a month
→ Reclaim those hours for writing or life
The authors who will thrive in 2025 and beyond aren't the ones fighting AI.
They're the ones making it work for them.
That's all for today.
Thank you so much for reading and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
See you next Saturday.
To Your Success
